Seattle, 1983. Taking to the streets of what was supposed to be America’s most livable city, filmmaker Martin Bell, photographer Mary Ellen Mark and journalist Cheryl McCall set out to tell the story of those society had left behind: the homeless and teenage runaways living on the city’s margins.

With remarkable access to their world, Martin Bell paints a devastatingly frank and empathetic portrait of an unforgettable group of teenagers. Streetwise is a remarkable cry from the heart for these lost youths who are growing up far too soon, in a world that has failed them.
