In Sainte-Marie-La-Mauderne, a small seaside village, the inhabitants, once proud fishermen, are now forced to live on government benefits. With the passing of welfare cheques, the villagers’ pride crumbles, giving way to gloom, torpor and despair.

After the mayor leaves for the big city, Germain, one of the villagers, decides to take matters into his own hands. To meet the demands of a company looking to set up a small factory here, he has to attract a doctor to the tiny village. But who would dare get lost in such a remote village?
