Between a failed encounter with his doctor father, a surprise visit to his girlfriend (who’s studying in Berlin) and a stroll on the beach, our young protagonist never seems to be in the right place at the right time. Fans of the prolific South Korean director known for his gossamer touch will be delighted with his 25th feature, winner of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the most recent Berlinale. With its drunken, seemingly banal conversations that cloak profound truths, masterful restraint and oblique approach, this poetic comedy of errors evokes the questionings of a young man as he gets a few life lessons. A jewel-like miniature that renders its emotions in tiny, exquisite brushstrokes. (
