Concrete Valley
A harrowing examination of human bonds in little-known corners of contemporary Toronto.
Rashid is struggling to fit in with his host country, and to overcome the mourning for the medical profession he left behind in Syria. Farah, his wife, is in turn aware that starting over is not always an option, and that reinventing oneself is often necessary. This empathetic film is a treatise on human relationships, as frustration, isolation and loss of identity drive a wedge between this couple. With its minimalist mise-en-scène and refined editing, Concrete Valley succeeds in conveying a feeling not uncommon among expatriates: that of a life on hold.
