Chungking Express
Two heartbroken Hong Kong policemen, both abandoned by former lovers, cross paths at the takeaway stand of the Midnight Express, where Faye, an ethereal, pixie-like waitress, works. Anything goes in Wong’s beautifully shot, totally unexpected film, which cemented the star appeal of its actors and forever transformed canned pineapple and the Mamas & the Papas song “California Dreamin’” into symbols of romantic nostalgia.
