Regards Palestiniens returns with its 17th Edition, marking three years since the intensification of the genocide. The Zionist occupation continues to escalate its violence against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, as it expands its Western-backed imperialist agenda across its borders in South Lebanon and the surrounding region.

The cognitive dissonance deepens as the attacks worsen – while global solidarity expands at a rapid pace through student and civil society protests and targeted boycotts (BDS and PACBI), world governments have been slow to acknowledge the depth of the brutality being perpetrated against Palestinians, nor have they sanctioned the Zionist entity in any meaningful way. Over the years, the Palestinian fight for freedom has been put in conversation with imperialist violence in Sudan, the Congo, Yemen, and Indigenous communities in Turtle Island and around the world. It’s clear that this is a new era of polycrisis, and that internationalism must be at the forefront of these interconnected struggles in order to make way for the anti-colonial cause for liberation.

In this sense, the 17th Edition is a return to form as we consider history’s repetition across three evenings of screenings. Time has taken on an indistinguishable shape, where the horrors being committed across Palestine and Lebanon today are a throughline to the beginnings of the Nakba and its precedents. Returns opens as a refusal to reproduce grief and violence as spectacle, while not looking away from the testimonial documentation of ethnic cleansing and ongoing genocide.

Rooted in remembrance, recollection, and retrospection, these films speculate on the act of witness as a possible site of resurrection, and a continuous commitment in support of Palestine.

Pay-what-you-can at the door. All proceeds from these screenings will be donated to the Sameer Project. Returns is co-presented with Cinéma Public, with the support of the Feminist Media Studio (Concordia University) and QPIRG Concordia.

Remembering

In lieu of visually reproducing the genocide in Gaza as a spectacle of violence, we focus on remembering through testimony: moments of boredom, anguish over limitations, reveling in music, being on the beach, and caring for community.
