THE ALL GOLDEN

Nate Wilson / 2023 / Canada / 64 min

A laid-up polyamorous bicycle courier discovers that her older, scholarly boyfriend has been keeping a sinister secret in his closet. Nate Wilson’s The All Golden pulses with an energy that can only be described as wild. It is a film that rejects definition and challenges our understanding of genre as it dekes in and out of its metafiction narrative, recalling its own existence along with the history of cinema. Blending the surreal dreamscapes of the likes of Guy Maddin with the raw, chaotic edge of internet culture, Wilson’s bold maximalist study of the complexity of relationships, loneliness, and the state of it all gives its audience a glimpse into the future of film and a whole lot to talk about once the credits roll!

SERVE THE COUNTRY

Fabian Velasco, Milos Mitrovic / 2024 / Canada / 8 min

A fast-talking man claiming to be a former tennis prodigy faces the doubts and derision of the people who cross his path. Where the rest of the characters play tennis, Serve the Country‘s protagonist plays squash by serving up a string of lies only he would believe. Fabian Velasco and Milos Mitrovic perfect their trademarked brand of losercore (seen on full display in their debut feature Tapeworm), delivering a darkly comedic portrait of desperation as their protagonist falls into a cycle of conspiracies and misinformation.
