Soirée SPATIALE
For one spatial evening only, come and discover a constellation of five authors (Sayaka Araniva-Yanez, Soline Asselin, Chris Bergeron, Mélissa Labonté, Dolce St-Arnold) and five short films exploring space, new technologies and the possibilities of the future. A program of interstellar films curated by Les Filministes, as well as galactic readings and a selection of feminist sci fi books by l’Euguélionne bookshop. What awaits you on this journey: readings by authors Sayaka Araniva-Yanez, Soline Asselin, Chris Bergeron, Mélissa Labonté, Dolce St-Arnold, as well as the following short films.
SIDERAL
Carlos Segundo / 2021 / Brazil, France / 15 min. In Natal, on the Brazilian north coast, the country is preparing to launch its first manned space rocket into space. A couple lives with their two children near the space centre, she is a cleaner and he is a mechanic, but she dreams of other horizons.
ATÉR
Marie Fages / 2021 / France / 21 min. Sahar tirelessly explores volcanic landscapes to find a rare mineral. But what she finds out shakes her research, her connection with the atmosphere and our Milky Way.
A SPACE EXODUS
Larissa Mansour / 2008 / Palestine / 5 min. A Space Exodus quirkily sets up an adapted stretch of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey in a Middle Eastern political context. The recognisable music scores of the 1968 science fiction film are changed to arabesque chords matching the surreal visuals of Sansour’s film.
LE CERCLE VIDE
Stéphanie Roland / 2021 / France / 19 min. Nothing really survives here. The bottom is so deep that no light ever enters it. Very few boats pass there, it is unknown when the falls will take place.
TOUT CE QUI GRONDE
Ève Saint-Louis / 2024 / Québec (Canada) / 14 min. In 2001, on a winter evening, two sibling groups meet to go sledding. Cléo, fourteen, is going through a tumultuous time. What was meant to be an ordinary outing will turn her life upside down.
