At the turn of the 16th century, Orlando is a young English nobleman who wins the admiration and affection of Queen Elizabeth I. She gives him the title deed to his ancestral home and warns him: “Do not fade. Do not fade. Do not grow old.” Her words have prophetic significance as Orlando journeys through centuries and eras in an ironic, dreamlike dance through English history.

Based on the work of Virginia Woolf, the film remains remarkably faithful to the author’s spirit, and just as skilfully adapts the original story to give it a striking cinematic form.
