In the aftermath of the Quebec patriots’ uprising in 1837, eight hundred of them were locked up in the Montreal prison. Among them were around a hundred condemned to death. In the early hours of 14 February 1839, Marie-Thomas Delorimier, Charles Hindelang and three of their companions learn that they are to be hanged the next day. The film recounts the last twenty-four hours of the two men’s lives. Their doubts, their fears, their hopes. Caught up in a pitiless machine, they face death. Their death. It is their only certainty. As in the Passion, the two men walk towards death and face their tragic destiny.
