Since 2010, Parthenais has been home to an entire queer community. They are gay, lesbian, trans and live together in the Centre-Sud district in the heart of Montreal, in a triplex that is falling into disrepair. Between parties that sometimes welcome over two hundred people until the wee hours of the morning, collective suppers, great joys and small despairs, this old apartment has transformed the lives of its tenants. Twelve years later, the building was bought by a wealthy family who wanted to live there, as gentrification was the order of the day. It’s the end of a mythical space that transformed a decade of Montreal’s queer scene.
