Montreal, Canada. One of the last major affordable cities in North America is experiencing an unprecedented housing crisis. As homeless encampments multiply, day centres overflow and struggle to cope with this increasingly worrying situation. Meanwhile, a wave of renovations is sweeping the province. In the heart of gentrified neighbourhoods, the Manoir Lafontaine, a 90-unit apartment building on the Plateau Mont-Royal, becomes a symbol of resistance. A choral, intimate film, Ma cité évincée gives a voice to those living with the aftermath of real estate speculation, and sounds the alarm about the human and social impact on the city of tomorrow.

Preceded by the short film Soup is Good Food (Alexandre Thériault, 2023, 7’23”, French)

Francis has been living in his apartment for several years. However, his world comes crashing down when he is told he has only five minutes to leave and collect his belongings.
