In search of Mount Analogue
Starting March 2, 2024
René Daumal’s Le Mont Analogue is the story of a journey to an impossible destination: the summit of a mysterious mountain in the southern hemisphere, sometimes called Olympus, Sinai or Meru. Because of its quest for the ineffable and its unfinished nature (the novel ends in the middle of a sentence), adapting the text is a goal comparable to that summit that can only be approached, never reached. From 27 February, the Ballet Opéra Pantomime (BOP) company sets off in search of Mont Analogue in a show at Espace Go combining dance, theatre and music. Cinéma Public is taking this opportunity to present a series of three films, including two based on the novel: La montagne sacrée (1973), Alejandro Jodorowsky’s superbly hermetic classic, and The Invisible Mountain (2021), a psychedelic work by avant-garde filmmaker Ben Russell. The third, Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky’s masterpiece Les harmonies Werckmeister (2000), inspired the production of the show.
