Cinéma Public is proud to partner with the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) to present some of the award-winning films from the festival’s 27th edition. To Our Friends was awarded the Special Jury Prize in the International Feature Competition.
With filmmaking that skillfully blurs boundaries between fact and fiction, Spain’s Adrián Orr plunges us into four years of Sara’s life as she transitions from adolescence to adulthood in the suburbs of Madrid. With her irreverent, rebellious personality, she spends her days hanging out with her best friend Pedro and other youths from their working-class neighbourhood, dreaming of a future that could offer everything or nothing. During summer vacation, Sara makes new acquaintances who introduce her to the theatre, opening the doors to a new world. To Our Friend is a sparkling coming-of-age story that is shot through social class issues and imbued with a gentle nostalgia that captures that precious moment of metamorphosis as life takes childhood friends down different paths. Please note that the screenings on December 7 and 8 are Cinéma Public presentations, and that passports, accreditations and ticket books produced by the RIDM will not be accepted.
