This unique screening is free and open to all. It will be followed by a panel of experts on the issues of sexual and domestic violence in cinema.
Lens, northern France. Chaylla, 23, is trying to free herself from a violent marital relationship. She is ready to fight for custody of her children. But inside her, the hope persists of forming a family again with her ex-partner. Between a legal battle and an intimate struggle, Chaylla is the story of four years in the life of a young woman, whose attempts at emancipation and powerful desire for justice come up against the mechanisms of control and dependence.
The panel will be composed of the following experts: Joëlle Rouleau, Associate Professor in the Department of Art History and Film Studies at Université de Montréal and Director of the SQS research-creation laboratory, Anne-Marie Nolet, M.A. student in film and Ph.D. in criminology at Université de Montréal and SAS-Femmes researcher, and Sara Côté Vaillant, M.A. graduate in film at Université de Montréal, former SQS member and independent researcher.
